She is completing her PhD in Management at Walden University, researching emotions in the workplace—how organizations can balance business imperatives with dignity, compassion, and emotional agility.
Today, Shawn delivers keynotes, workshops, and seminars that support HR leaders, managers, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), helping organizations build resilience and foster healthier workplace cultures.

Shawn’s career has also been vibrant and creative. An Iowa native and Miss Iowa-USA 1997, she has acted in independent films, hosted red carpets, and supported film communities as a board member and mentor.
While living in Nashville, she recorded her album Girl Most Likely To (streamed over 1 million times) and performed with award-winning songwriters. She has also starred in stage productions nationwide, from classic musicals to contemporary plays.

Shawn is the proud mom of an adult daughter, an animal lover, and a kitchen gadget enthusiast.
Her free time includes walks with friends and finding half-filled coffee cups around her home while she listens to audio books. She then enjoys watching shows with strong female storylines while drinking coffee or tea.

Adoptees and Foster Children: As an adoptee, Shawn mentors and supports adoptees and foster children in education and as they navigate the workplace.
First Generation College Students: As a first generation college student, Shawn is a champion of first generation college students and partners with orgnaizations that lend support and mentorship.
Surviving Parents/ Caregivers of Minor Children: Shawn became a solo parent/ surviving parent of a minor when her daughter was 4 years old. She is a Certified Grief Educator (Kessler) and lends time and research to women in the workplace, single mothers, and children who have experienced the illness, death, or loss of a parent or caregiver.
